College Arms Towers Joins the Family of Westminster Communities of Florida
November 1, 2017
ORLANDO, October 31, 2017– Westminster Communities of Florida and the College Arms Towers Board of Directors are excited to announce that College Arms Towers, an affordable senior living community in DeLand, Fla., has joined the Westminster family.
The transfer of sponsorship of the community preserves the mission of service of College Arms Towers to low-income seniors. College Arms Towers will continue to honor all residents’ leases and provide employment to current employees.
College Arms Towers, a 16-story, 196-apartment building on North Amelia Avenue, has provided a quality affordable place to live for seniors since 1970, through the generosity of the Bert Fish Foundation, which donated the land for the building and provided the funds for its construction. It has been managed by Westminster Communities of Florida since 2014.
Martha Holler, former chair of the board of directors of College Arms Towers, said, “We are so thankful for the generations of residents who have lived at College Arms Towers since 1970. Westminster Communities of Florida will be a good steward in serving our residents, and we know that the historic mission of serving low-income seniors at College Arms Towers will continue for many years to come.”
As part of the transaction, a portion of the proceeds will be used to purchase a new van for transportation and to make improvements to the community that will enhance the quality of life of its residents, and another portion will be given to three other local charitable organizations serving seniors in DeLand. Westminster Communities of Florida thanks the former College Arms Towers board of directors for their generosity and service, including Mrs. Holler, vice president Kathy Sanders, and board members Robert F. Apgar, Mary Ellen Early and Richard C. Reynolds.
Westminster Communities of Florida Chief Executive Officer Roger Stevens said, “We are so pleased that today, College Arms Towers is becoming part of the Westminster family. Our organization has served seniors with low incomes since 1990. Now we’re expanding that mission and ministry with the wonderful residents and employees at College Arms Towers. We are truly stronger together.”
